"An Indian is a beautiful thing if you really look at it and know how to do it," said Barbara Sparks, the Big Queen of the Yellow Jackets Mardi Gras Indian gang, during an interview in 2000. Active with the Black Indians for her entire adult life, the much-respected Queen stood tall next to her husband, the "Jackets" Big Chief Thomas Sparks for almost 30 years.
